Weather warning

In light of the amount of traffic expected as the easter hollydays come to an end, the Icelandic Meteorological Office wants to emphasize the bad weather that is expected tomorrow, Monday 17th of April. Windspeed is expected to be 20 – 25 m/s (45 – 56 miles/hour) in the southwest and west part around and after noon tomorrow, and up to 28 m/s (62 miles/hour) in places close to mountains with strong gusts. Moderate to heavy precipitation is expected,  fyrst snow and later sleet or rain. Poor visibility and very poor driving conditions in some parts.

On the road over Hellisheidi snow is expected around noon and soon after poor visibility may be expected. Poor visibility will continue until evening when  the snow will turn into sleet or rain. Very strong gusts may be expected close to high mountains on the road from Reykjavik to Borgarnes, and also on the north side of the Snæfellsnes penisula.

The weather moves to the norteast over the country and becoming strong winds with blowing snow and poor visibility also on the high roads in the northwest part of Iceland in the afternoon. Becoming moderate southwesterly winds first in the west late tomorrow evening.
