After consultation with the avalanche monitoring experts of the Icelandic Meteorological office, the evacuation in Eskifjörður has now been cancelled. There has been little movement since yesterday and there are no indications that a large area has been on the move. However, the Oddskarð road will be closed until further notice. Also, the request that people should be careful at Grjótá and Lambeyrará has been revoked.

An open on-line meeting of residents is planned for Tuesday next with the participation of the Commissioner of Police, the mayor of Fjarðabyggð and a representative from the Meteorological office. Information on the timing of the meeting will be given later.

The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police, in consultation with the Commissioner of Police in Austurland has recalled the danger level of the Civil Protection Department and revoked the evacuation in Eskifjörður. The emergency centre of the Icelandic Red Cross in Eskifjörður church has been closed.
