Uncertainty phase in Flateyri and Súgandafjörður

The Commissioner of the Icelandic Police in collaboration with the District Chief of Police in the Western Fjords has decided to lower the Civil Protection Emergency phase to Uncertainty phase  due to snow avalanches in Flateyri and Súgandafjörður, that was declared on January 15th 2020. The snow avalanche risk has decreased and the Meteorological Office has lifted their alert phases in northern Westfjords.

Civil Protection uncertainty phase is still in effect in the Western Fjords due to the snow avalanche in Flateyri and Súgandafjörður. The recovery phase is ongoing.
