Uncertainty phase lifted – Alert phase remains in northern Iceland

The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police in collaboration with the District Chiefs of Police in Iceland, has decided to lift the Uncertainty phase that was declared on December 9th due to extreme weather in Iceland. However, the Civil Protection will remain on Alert Phase in Norðurland eystra, Norðurland vestra and Strandir that was declared on the 10th of December, due to the severe consequences of the extreme weather in this part of the country.

All effort is put on securing the safety of the population as well as securing infrastructures, especially power, telecommunication and transport. Damage and disruption due to the weather is extensive.

The Meteorological Office has lifted the Uncertainty phase due to the threat of snow avalanches in northern Iceland.
