Tilkynning frá almannavarnadeild ríkislögreglustjóra og lögreglustjóranum á Austurlandi:
Síðustu vikur hefur verið unnið að hreinsunarstarfi á Seyðisfirði, meðal annars á áhrifasvæði stóru skriðunnar er féll 18. desember við svokallaðan Múla. Þar er um hús að ræða við Hafnargötu númer 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16b og 18c. Svæðið telst vinnusvæði þar sem óviðkomandi er bannaður aðgangur. Stórvirkar vélar eru notaðar við hreinsunarstarf og gerð varnargarðs ofan við fyrrnefnd hús.
Þá hefur Múlaþing, ásamt fulltrúa Ofanflóðasjóðs, lagt til að hættumati verði flýtt á svæði utan við stóru skriðuna vegna húsa sem eru sitt hvoru megin við Stöðvarlæk. Óvissa ríkir varðandi íbúðabyggð þar til framtíðar.
Ríkislögreglustjóri hefur því ákveðið í samráði við lögreglustjórann á Austurlandi og Veðurstofu Íslands að aflétta ekki hættustigi á Seyðisfirði meðan hreinsunarstarf er enn í gangi samanber ofangreint, unnið að gerð varnargarðs og frummatsskýrslu beðið fyrir svæðið utan við skriðu.
Á meðan kalt er í veðri og ekki rigning, telur Veðurstofan að ekki sé yfirvofandi skriðuhætta. Á næstu mánuðum má búast við að rýmt verði í öryggisskyni þegar og ef veðurspá er óhagstæð. Unnin hafa verið drög að reitaskiptri rýmingaráætlun til þess að bregðast við slíkum aðstæðum. Áætlunin verður unnin í samráði við íbúa Seyðisfjarðar og kynnt þegar hún verður tilbúin.

Notification from the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management and the Police Commissioner in East Iceland:
Cleaning work has been done in Seyðisfjörður in past weeks, i.a. in the area affected by the big mud slide which fell December 18th by the so-called Múli. This involves houses number 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16b og 18c on Hafnargata. The area is considered a work area where unauthorized access is prohibited.
Heavy machinery is used for the cleaning work and the construction of a levee above the aforementioned houses.
Múlaþing, as well as a representative from the Flood Fund, have suggested to quicken the danger assessment in an area on the outside of the big slide, on account of houses that are on both sides of Stöðvarlækur. There is an uncertainty regarding the residential area there in the future.
The National Police Commissioner has therefore decided, in agreement with the Police Commissioner of East Iceland and the Icelandic Met Office, not to lift the alert phase in Seyðisfjörður while the cleaning work is still ongoing, as per abovementioned, as well as the construction of a levee and a preliminary assessment report is awaited for the area on the outside of the mud slide.
While the weather is still cold and it does not rain, the Icelandic Met Office does not consider there to be an imminent danger of a mud slide. Evacuation can be expected in the coming months as a precautionary measure, when and if the weather forecast is unfavorable. A draft has been made for an evacuation plan divided into grids, as a reaction to such circumstances. The plan will be processed in consultation with the residents of Seyðisfjörður and introduced when it is ready.

W ostatnich tygodniach przeprowadzone zostały prace porządkowe w Seyðisfjörður, między innymi na obszarze objętym przez duże osuwisko, które spadło 18 grudnia z tzw. Múli. Dotyczy to domów przy Hafnargata, pod numerami 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16b i 18c. Obszar ten jest uważany za strefę roboczą, do której dostęp osób nieupoważnionych jest zabroniony. Do prac porządkowych i budowy umocnień zabezpieczających nad w/w domami wykorzystywany jest ciężki sprzęt budowlany.
Múlaþing, wraz z przedstawicielem Funduszu Lawinowego (Ofanflóðasjóðs), zaproponował przyspieszenie analizy zagrożeń na terenie poza dużym osuwiskiem, dotyczącej domów po obu stronach Stöðvarlækur. Nie ma pewności odnośnie terenów mieszkaniowych w przyszłości.
W związku z tym Krajowy Komisarz Policji w porozumieniu z Komisarzem Policji we Wschodniej Islandii i Islandzkim Urzędem Meteorologicznym zdecydował, aby nie zwiększać stopnia zagrożenia w Seyðisfjörður, podczas trwających nadal prac porządkowych jak nadmieniono powyżej, przygotowania umocnień oraz opracowywania raportu wstępnej oceny obszaru poza osuwiskiem.
Urząd Meteorologiczny uważa, że podczas obecnej zimnej i bezdeszczowej pogody nie ma bezpośredniego ryzyka osunięć ziemi. Ewakuacji ze względów bezpieczeństwa w najbliższych miesiącach można się spodziewać jeśli prognoza pogody byłaby niekorzystna. W odpowiedzi na taką sytuację został przygotowany projekt planu ewakuacji. Plan zostanie przygotowany w porozumieniu z mieszkańcami Seyðisfjörður i przedstawiony, gdy będzie gotowy.
