Civil Protection alert level moved to emergency phase

The National Commissioner of the Icelandic Police has raised the alert level of the response to the COVID-19 virus outbreak. Two instances of transmission inside Iceland have been confirmed today.

As a result, it has been decided to move the response into the emergency phase.

This emergency activation has no significant impact on the public beyond those measures that have been taken already. However, it allows for response agencies and critical service providers to increase their preparedness activities. For the time being, no travel restrictions are in force.

The Chief Epidemiologist and his staff are paying special attention to vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly and those with underlying medical conditions.
