Áfram hefur dregið úr krafti gossins en nú gýs á tveimur til þremur stöðum á gossprungunni samkvæmt upplýsingum frá Veðurstofa Íslands. Sprengivirkni sem hófst á milli kl. 13 og 14 í dag er að mestu lokið. Þó sjást enn minniháttar gufustrókar stíga upp á stöku stað á sprungunni.
Samhliða því að dró úr ákafa gossins þá minnkaði aflögunarmerki í kvikuganginum. Það bendir til þess að kvika sé ekki lengur að koma upp undir jafnmiklum þrýstingi og í upphafi. Fljótlega eftir að gosið hófst minnkaði skjálftavirkni verulega og hefur verið minniháttar í dag, en um 20 smáskjálftar hafa mælst yfir kvikuganginum síðan kl. 8 í morgun.
Veðurstofan hefur uppfært hættumat sitt með tilliti til þróunar í virkni gossins. Hættumatið gildir, að öllu óbreyttu, til kl. 19 á morgun, föstudaginn 9. febrúar.

The intensity of the eruption has continued to decrease, but there are still eruptions at two to three locations within the eruption fissure according to information from the Icelandic Met Office. The explosive activity that started between 1 pm and 2 pm today is mostly over. However, minor steam plumes can still be seen rising at isolated spots along the fissure.
Alongside the decrease in eruption intensity, the seismic activity within the magma conduit has also decreased. This indicates that magma is no longer rising under as much pressure as initially. Shortly after the eruption began, seismic activity decreased significantly and has been minor today, with about 20 small earthquakes recorded above the magma conduit since 8 am this morning.
The Met Office has updated its risk assessment regarding the development of the eruption. The current risk assessment remains valid until 7 pm tomorrow, Friday, February 9th.
