Open access to the eruption sites

The Chief of Police in Suðurnes has decided to open access to the eruption sites in Geldingadalir. Weather conditions are improving and the Icelandic Met Office has set up a weather station by Geldingadalir to monitor the weather in real time. Work is also underway to advance real time measuring of gas by the edges of the lava. With these actions the Chief of Police estimates that it is acceptable to keep the area open in coming days and weeks but warnings will be broadcasted if the air quality worsens or the weather forecast is unfavorable.

People who plan on trips to the eruption sites are urged to obtain information about the latest weather forecast and to be well equipped for the outdoors for a long period of time as most people stay longer by the eruption sites than they had intended because the spectacle is magnificent. People are also urged to bring along additional charging for phones as batteries drain rapidly due to recording and the cold.

The risk of gas accumulating in dells is always present and it is therefore ill-advised to go through them along lava edges; it is best to stay in hills above Geldingadalur.

In addition, it is pointed out that contagion due to COVID has increased and travelers are therefore urged to exercise extreme caution and observe personal disease prevention.

Otwarty dostęp do miejsc erupcji

Komendant policji w Suðurnes postanowił otworzyć dostęp do miejsc erupcji w Geldingadalur. Warunki pogodowe się poprawiają, a Islandzkie Biuro Meteorologiczne w Geldingadalur uruchomiło swoją stację pogodową, dzięki której będzie monitorowało pogodę w czasie rzeczywistym.
